Question by zpappa2003: Is there a program for the homeless to get free travel if they are headed back to a home?
I’ve been hearing a lot about if you’re homeless, a welfare office will give you a free train ticket if your destination includes a home where you can live. Does anybody have further information on this? I Googled with no luck.

um. i’d go to the place in your city and find out. i saw a poster on the wall in a place in toronto for a program that does that. and i also heard of people out in western canada getting free trips home. i wish i did that

These days there seems to be an increasing problem with infestations of this insect, according to what one sees in the news. If hot water is not an option, objects may be placed in a clothes dryer on high heat without washing.

Items that cannot be washed may be completely encased in heavy plastic so that any pests trapped inside will die. Mattresses and other large things that are not washable may be treated this way. It is important to make sure that the plastic is completely sealed around the object for this method to be effective.

When heating or washing in hot water is not an option for an infested item, freezing temperatures may be effective, though the length of treatment will need to be longer. Small items may be put in the freezer compartment for several weeks and should be free of pests when removed. This method might be needed for toys or articles of clothing that can not be dry cleaned or treated with heat.

If chemical treatments need to be used after other methods have been tried, there are sprays and other forms of them available. Use with caution, of course, around children, pets, and plants to avoid injury. Using a variety of methods may be necessary to completely get rid of bed bugs and end an infestation.

My husband is startinga job where he will make $ 36,000/year and will received $ 600 a month on top of that tax-free for work-related travel. I tried figuring out his take home pay by deducting the $ 600 from his gross pay and exempting it from taxes, but I come out with LESS money than he makes now? What am I doing wrong?

The travel stipend is NOT tax free.

You need to read irs pub 463, accountable plans.

If he gets $ 600 a month without turning in receipts, it’s a non-accountable plan and the money is fully taxable as income. While he can save the receipts and try to claim them as a unreimbursed business deduction, those evaporate quickly on the schedule A.

If he gets *up to* $ 600 by turning in his receipts, it’s not taxable, but the company may be pulling a fast one…what happens if he goes over $ 600, will they reimburse him?
