If being a vegan is about reducing animal suffering as much as possible, wouldn’t supporting a company that ALSO manufactures animal products (even if what was purchased WAS vegan or animal-free) be somewhat contradictory to that goal?

it depends on the person’s opinion and goal.

some vegans don’t eat animal produce because they personally don’t want to and care about animal rights, but aren’t judgmental of others. Then there are vegan’s such as the organisation peta, whose whole goal is to convince everybody in the whole world to convert to veganism and care for the animals.

similarly, it depends how strict they are, some vegans would be picky about any chance of contamination from the animal products being used by the company/factory, which is why on a lot of labels for vegan and vegetarian food, they mention if it was made in the same factory as non-vegan food.
